How it's made

Our commitment to quality and service starts with our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. Employees work in excellent conditions, and we honor fair labor and fair trade ideals. We also hold our suppliers to the same strict standards.

In an effort to combat global reliance upon plastic bags, Habitotes created our line of fully customizable totes. It’s a small step every household can take that adds up to a huge difference. Each bag, made of 5 recycled water bottles, has the carrying capacity of 3–4 plastic bags and can go in the washing machine if they get a little dirty. 80% of each Habitotes bag is made of durable, non-woven polypropylene. Habitotes can last for over 400 uses. Choose Habitotes and save our endangered ecosystems and the Earth’s nonrenewable resources.

Our goal is to reduce the amount of waste that pollutes the Earth, and we are increasingly concerned about the high cost of plastic bags, which make up over 10% of the debris on U.S. coastlines.

Plastic bags exact a huge toll on the environment. Their production drains our already dwindling supplies of nonrenewable petroleum. It takes 12 million barrels of oil to produce the amount of plastic bags the United States uses per year. These plastic bags don’t just drain natural resources, they also destroy ecosystems.

For instance, an estimated 1 million birds and 100,000 turtles, not to mention countless other sea life, die of starvation each year after digesting discarded plastic bags which block these animals’ digestive tracks.

As many as 1 trillion plastic bags are handed out each year worldwide, and less than 1% of them are recycled. The average family accumulates 60 plastic bags in only four trips to the grocery store. The United States alone spends $4 billion to produce the 100 billion plastic bags it uses each year.
